Alternative Sauces 10 in All

Cooking Chicago, IL

We constantly receive questions from home cooks about how to make sauces to complement everyday meals. We all have experienced how a particular condiment or sauce can transform a good dish into a really great, memorable one. But let’s face it, classic butter and cream based sauces popular on restaurant menus are great indulgences, but are not appropriate for regular, everyday healthy cooking.

Join us and cook with friends in a hands-on cooking experience of alternatives to traditional sauces. Experience the fresh, clean taste of pestos, relishes, salsas, chutneys and vegetable coulees, all made without high saturated fats. Our focus will be on items that can be made quickly at home to complement simply prepared meats, fish and poultry, as well as their use in vegetarian dishes.

Filipino cuisine has been influenced by its history of a Chinese, Spanish and American presence. It is this multi-national influence that gives it its unique character, unlike any other cuisine of South East Asia.

We’ll explore some of our favorite dishes as they are prepared in homes throughout the Philippines. The class will start by making fresh quick pickled cucumber and Bihongke, a fragrant ginger and bean thread noodle soup. Classic Chicken Adobo with coconut milk and Pinakbet with pork and fresh mixed vegetables will fill the air with the aroma of island food. Turon, a banana fritter with jackfruit and lemongrass caramel will provide a delicious finish to the evening’s menu.

This menu contains chicken, pork, shellfish and gluten.
